Star Trek: TOS 001 “The Cage” - UCP Audio Commentaries

• September 23rd, 2012

Here we go with the first episode of our audio commentary series for Star Trek: The Original Series. We're starting at the very beginning with the unaired pilot, "The Cage."

In this still-developing version of Star Trek, many things are quite different than they would end up, but the groundwork is laid for much of what Star Trek would explore thematically over the next 45+ years. This episode is particularly interesting as it establishes many Trek tropes that are of interest to us at UCP: the false god villain, the use of power to dominate and control, the complex, often divided nature of humankind as both intelligent and primal and the use of Edenic imagery and references to Adam and Eve.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - UCP Audio Commentary Series

• September 7th, 2012

Welcome to the Undiscovered Country Project Audio Commentary Series! In this podcast, we provide running audio commentaries for every episode of Star Trek, every episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation and selected Star Trek films - all continuing UCP's mission of exploring Star Trek from a Christian worldview perspective. The commentary series is hosted by Kevin C. Neece, founder and editor of The Undiscovered Country Project, his First Officer Tim Van Orden and a few special guests along the way.

We're kicking things off with the Wrath of Khammentary - a special edition commentary for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (Director's Edition). This year marks the 30th anniversary of the film's theatrical debut, so we thought this would be a great way to celebrate!

In this commentary, we'll start along the thread of Spock as a Christ figure, an unintended metaphor that carries beautifully through the next two films. Those commentaries will be up in the coming weeks. Look for them!
